1. Butterfly Disc: The valve has a disc or plate mounted on a spindle that rotates inside the valve body. The disc can be actuated to open or close the flow path by turning the spindle.
2. Valve Body: The body is usually made of metal or other durable materials and houses the disc. The wafer type design allows the valve to be sandwiched between flanges, securing it in place when the flanges are tightened.
3. Actuator: The pneumatic actuator is responsible for operating the valve and can be controlled remotely using compressed air or gas. The actuator will open or close the valve based on the input signals received from the control system.
4. Sealing Mechanism: The valve is equipped with sealing elements (often made of rubber or elastomer) around the disc perimeter to provide a tight seal when the valve is closed, preventing any leakage.
When the actuator receives a signal to open the valve, it rotates the disc perpendicular to the flow direction, allowing the fluid to pass through the valve. When the actuator receives a signal to close the valve, it rotates the disc back to its original position, blocking the flow.
